The skipper underscored the importance of balancing Siraj's strenuous cricketing commitments over the past six months, which included his significant contributions to the Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. In addition to it, with the T20 World Cup coming up as well as the Test series to follow, the presence of a fast bowler will be needed. A statement from the India Cricket Board explained that the decision was made considering the length of the series and Mohammed Siraj's recent workload. Additionally, Avesh Khan has been named as Siraj's replacement in the India squad for the match.

"Mr Mohd. Siraj has been released from the India squad for the second Test against England in Vizag. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played in recent times. He will be available for selection for the third Test in Rajkot. Avesh Khan has re-joined the team for the 2nd Test," the release stated.
