Following the defeat in Hyderabad, the Indian Cricket team have been facing a lot of criticism. There have been numerous verdicts and statements that have been passed by the former players against the timid approach that the Indian team showcased in the second innings of the first Test. The Indian batting completely went into the shell which resulted in them not chasing down a target of 231 runs to win.
Citing this humiliating defeat from the Indian team, discussing the match, the former England cricketer Monty Panesar shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma's leadership during the first Test. Panesar suggested that Rohit's performance both with the bat and tactically appeared lacking, expressing the view that Rohit seemed uncertain during the match.
"A very big victory for England. Nobody even imagined that this was possible, everyone thought England would lose after a 190 deficit but Ollie Pope played a brilliant innings, one of the best we’ve seen for a long time. And Rohit Sharma, he was clueless. Absolutely clueless captain. Not proactive, not changing the field set or anything like that. With Ravindra Jadeja and Ollie Pope playing the scoop. Just take slip out and put in a fly slip or something, change the field,” Monty Panesar was quoted as saying by Metro.co.uk.
It will be 5-0 for England: Panesar
The former England spinner, Monty Panesar has issued a warning ahead of the second Test in India's series against England. Panesar suggested that if Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley replicate their performances from Hyderabad, the visitors could potentially secure a whitewash victory against India.
“If Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley continue to play like this it will be a whitewash, it will be 5-0 for England. It can happen if Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley play like this. It is a very big victory, no one even imagined this was even possible. Everyone thought that England would lose after a 190 deficit but Ollie Pope had a brilliant inning one of the best innings we have seen in a long time and Rohit Sharma was clueless,” Panesar added.
