England claimed the initial advantage in the Test series by defeating Team India by a margin of 28 runs in the Hyderabad Test. After facing a setback in the first innings, the English team turned the tide with a remarkable performance in the second innings. Just a week ago, it seemed unlikely that India would contemplate significant changes to their lineup ahead of the second Test against England.

However, following a challenging start to the series resulting in a 28-run loss in Hyderabad, they found themselves without Virat Kohli, who withdrew from the first two games due to personal reasons. Furthermore, additional injuries have compounded India's challenges, necessitating reinforcements across various departments. In addition, let us look three possible changes which might happen in the second upcoming Test;

3. Kuldeep Yadav in place of Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj faced a tough outing in his hometown of Hyderabad, remaining without a wicket in the Test match. Across both innings, he bowled 11 overs, but the English openers took advantage of his bowling, scoring at a rate of seven runs per over in the first innings. India may opt for a turning pitch in Vizag, potentially sacrificing Siraj for an additional spinner.

Kuldeep Yadav has an impressive Test record and recent form, could be the preferred replacement. Kuldeep's bowling style could pose challenges for the English batters. Considering his limited impact in Hyderabad, Siraj appears likely to be dropped from the playing XI.

2. Sarfaraz Khan/ Rajat Patidar in place of KL Rahul

KL Rahul who contributed a half-century in the first Test against England, will miss the Vizag match due to a quad strain. His absence creates a significant void in the middle order, particularly with Kohli already absent. India faces a decision between Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan as replacements for Rahul. While Patidar has been with the squad since Kohli's departure, Sarfaraz has been included as cover for Rahul.

Both Sarfaraz and Patidar are in top form, making the decision challenging. Sarfaraz, in particular has a case given his consistent run-scoring in recent years, including at the No. 4 position for India A, indicating his readiness for Test cricket. In addition to this, Rajat Patidar was also selected to the squad after a blistering century against England Lions playing for India A.

1. Washington Sundar in place for Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja's absence due to a hamstring injury leaves a significant void in India's Test XI, as he typically fulfills the roles of two players. As a crucial No. 6 batter and one of the team's top bowlers, his absence will be keenly felt in the upcoming second Test. Saurabh Kumar presents a similar left-arm spin option with some batting ability, but Washington Sundar should likely be prioritized over him. Sundar, an off-spinning all-rounder, has proven himself as a technically proficient batters against spin throughout his Test career.

A potential solution for replacing Jadeja could involve promoting Axar in the batting lineup while bolstering the lower order with Sundar. Although fielding two off-spinners may not be ideal, India may not have the luxury of being selective given the circumstances.
