Former India captain Virat Kohli is all set to make a grand comeback to international T20 cricket after more than 14 months. Kohli and Rohit Sharma were named in the squad for the three-match T20I home series against Afghanistan in light of the 2024 T20 World Cup. While Rohit led the side in the series opener in Mohali, Kohli opted out of the match due to personal reasons.

Although head coach Rahul Dravid did not mention the reason behind the veteran cricketer's absence, it is reported that he was with his family to celebrate his daughter Vamika's birthday on January 11. However, Dravid confirmed that Kohli will join the team ahead of the second match in Indore - to play in the shortest format for the first time since losing the 2022 World Cup semi-final to England.

In a video circulating on social media, Kohli was spotted at the Mumbai airport, indicating his readiness to rejoin the Indian squad. The batting maestro arrived in a luxury black Mercedes Benz to fly to Indore. He wore a brown jacket over a black T-shirt, giving the overall a slaying look.

The ongoing series against Afghanistan will be Team India's final T20 assignment ahead of the 2024 World Cup. With so many talents waiting for a chance to represent the country on the mega stage, the veteran players including Virat Kohli need to perform well in the upcoming matches. However, the management has confirmed that the squad for the marquee event will be primarily based on the performance of the players in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).

With over 4000 runs, Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the history of the format. When the last time the right-hander faced Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup, he scored his maiden T20I century. It also marked Kohli's stellar comeback after going through a rough patch of nearly three years.

Here's how fans reacted to the video of Virat Kohli arriving at the airport:
