The FIH Men's World Cup 2023 is just days away from getting kicked off and the Indian fans are all thrilled to witness the Indian team take on some of the hockey giants of the world. Much to the surprise of the hockey fans, the most successful team in the history of the multinational tournament, Pakistan, failed to qualify for the upcoming edition.
For the unversed, the mega tournament will get underway on January 13, Friday and a total of 44 matches will be played in the multinational event, with the summit clash set to take place on January 29 at the Kalinga Stadium, the venue that hosted the FIH World Cup 2018. 16 nations are a part of the tournament, each group consisting of 4 nations.
Here is India’s schedule and Groups:
The Indian team will take on Spain in their first-ever game of the contest on the opening day and will eventually play their last game of Pool D on January 19 against Wales. It will be a tough ask for the Indian team as they are grouped alongside some of the challenging teams, although the blue brigade are the highest-ranked in the group.
The first game against the Spaniards will be played at the newly-built Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium at Rourkela. If at all Harmanpreet Singh-led India manage to pull off the unbelievable feat, it will be a start of a new era, given that it is the national sport, although with fewer followers as compared to other sports.
