An upcoming live action movie for Minecraft will see beloved actor Jack Black in the lead role of Steve. As per reports, he will be joined by Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks and Emma Myers to bring the game character to life.
Steve is the default game character and have a female counterpart, Alex. While there are many other characters added with multiple updates, many players still use default hero Steve.
Minecraft is currently the most popular game and hold the record of most sales across the world, reaching over 300 million in sales. Even the second best-selling game, GTA V is 100 million shy in sales.
Developed by Mojang, the studio along with the game was later purchased by Microsoft. Over the years, multiple single-player and multi-player spin-offs of the game have been released by the developers like Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends.
There is currently no information on what the story will be or what will it be about, with many leaks suggesting that it is still being worked on. The planned release is for April 2025 but depending on how things work out, the movie can be delayed to the second half.
This is not Black’s first stint with live action adaptation, as he also brought the beloved antagonist from Nintendo’s Super Mario game, Bowser to live. The move was also a smash hit owing to its talented cast.
Black is also going to play a role in the upcoming borderlands adaptation and have previous voiced multiple video game characters. He is known for playing some of the most iconic roles in the Hollywood, including Po from Kung Fu Panda, which is also getting the much awaited fourth instalment this year.
