A new PvP MOBA style arena shooter, Wakerunners, is currently in development by Mintrocket, the developers for Dave the Diver. The developers recently released an official teaser for the game, and it does now match the vibe of their previous game at all.
As seen in the teaser clip, Wakerunners is a much faster and flashier game compared to Dave the Diver. While it is great to see a studio try out a different genre of game, it did come as a surprise to the fans.
Teaser impressions
By the looks of the game, it combines multiple different gameplay style, which isn’t particularly a bad thing. Valorant that mixed elements from multiple other games became a very successful esports title.
Similarly, Wakerunners mixes the elements of a MOBA game paired with high-octane gameplay and movement. It is not clear if there will be any PvE elements, however, the developers have promised multiple modes on release.
These includes Control Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Command Siege, and Raider Mode. There are also a variety of environments, however, only after playing one can determine how well the maps and modes synergizes.
The game will be playable either 4v4 or 5v5 in team. The game seems to be focused on movement and how players control it. Over time, holding the sprint will accelerate players faster and players will be required to utilize the momentum.
Make-or-Break situation
Since there are currently two behemoths in the MOBA scene, the game needs to do comparably good on launch. While the developers have made a name from themselves, the player expectations will also be very high.
Currently, the game does not have any specific release timeline. However, players can play the beta during the upcoming Steam Next Fest starting February 5.
