The footballing world is still processing the controversy that started in the aftermath of the shocking interview of Cristiano Ronaldo with British journalist Piers Morgan. In the interview, the 37-year-old senior center-forward went on to slam Manchester United and the club’s manager Erik Ten Hag.
Most of the people in the footballing fraternity have reckoned that Ronaldo’s career with the Red Devils will go no longer be after this interview.
While speaking with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo went a bit too harsh while talking about Wayne Rooney. Notably, Rooney went on to criticize Ronaldo for a poor outing this season. Ronaldo told Morgan that the Englishman is jealous of him because he is playing at the same age at which the former has retired.
“I don’t know why he criticizes me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level. I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true," said Ronaldo to Piers Morgan.
Subsequently, Wayne Rooney has recently come up with a response to the Portuguese international and took a sly dig at the latter’s age.
It’s not a criticism, what I’ve said is age comes to all of us - Wayne Rooney on Cristiano Ronaldo
"He’s a fantastic player. He and Messi are probably the two best players to play the game. It’s not a criticism, what I’ve said is age comes to all of us, Cristiano is finding it hard to deal with that,” said Rooney.
"He’s done an interview and it’s gone global. It's strange some of the comments but I’m sure #mufc will deal with it once they see the full interview and take whatever action they need to take," the former England center-forward added later.
Notably, Wayne Rooney had been a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo while playing for Manchester united. But the England international bid adieu to professional football last year in 2021 on the 15th of Jan. Interestingly, Rooney appeared in 559 matches for the Red Devils in which he scored 253 goals and 145 assists to his name having only one red card to his name in the entire career with MUFC.
