Politics taking centerstage in either of the fields or sectors is not something new in the Indian scenario. Even sometimes, the politicians who are thirsty for cheap publicity don’t hesitate to insult the pride of the nation, our sportspersons. A similar has happened in the prize distribution ceremony of the 131st edition of the Durand Cup.
Notably, Bengaluru FC, led by senior footballer and India captain Sunil Chhetri, won the final against Mumbai by a margin of 2-1 to clinch the title of the Durand Cup. Both teams played this match at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Apart from the action of the match, the frustrating moments from the post-match ceremony are surfacing on social media more than the news of Bengaluru’s victory in the finals.
In the first video, the Governor of West Bengal La Ganesan can be seen touching and physically forcing Sunil Chhetri away to make himself visible in the photo more than Chhetri.
In another video, a guest of the ceremony went on to push the Bengaluru player Sivasakthi Narayanan, who opened the scoring in the final against Mumbai.
Here’re both the videos:
Ladies & gentlemen, bringing you Shri La. Ganeshan, honorable Governor of West Bengal. #DurandCup

The high-headedness is audacious. Not expected of a respectable figure, @LaGanesan. A public apology surely won't be too much to ask for. #IndianFootballpic.twitter.com/aEq4Yq6a6R

The guests who arrived there to felicitate the players were looking more eager to get noticed in the photos than the players.
The videos have been watched by more than 40,000 people and football fans have expressed their shocking reactions to this behavior with the players.
Speaking of the match, then Sunil Chhetri & co. registered a fine victory of 2-1 against Mumbai. N. Sivasakthi and Alan Costa were the goal scorers for Bengaluru in the first and second halves respectively. Notably, it is the first title triumph for Bengaluru in this prestigious competition in Indian football.
Now, the champions Bengaluru will now eye on to win the Indian Super League commencing a few months later. They’ll definitely want to continue their golden patch to claim another tournament win.
