Cristiano Ronaldo is currently busy playing in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He also guided Portugal to seal the top spot in Group H. They managed six points in three games as they lost against South Korea in the last match. However, before this World Cup, he made headlines by giving an explosive interview about his former club Manchester United.

As a result, on 22 November 2022, Manchester United confirmed the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo. After that, Ronaldo also issued a statement. He said: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future."

On 7 December 2022, Portugal were taking on Switzerland in the Round of 16 of the World Cup. However, before this match, there were reports that Portugal's head coach Fernando Santos could strip Ronaldo of captaincy due to his reactions in the South Korea clash. During that clash, Santos substituted the Portugues superstar in the 65th minute. After that, Ronaldo looked not happy when he went to the dugout. He also came up with some feisty reactions. So, reports got circulated that Ronaldo took aim at his head coach.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo denied those claims as he said that those reactions were at South Korea’s striker, Cho Gue-sung. On the eve of the Switzerland clash, Fernando Santos came to the pre-match press conference and opened up his views about the same incident. He said: “Have I seen the images when Ronaldo was subbed? Yes. Did I not like what I saw? No, I didn’t like it one bit. These matters are resolved behind closed doors. It’s resolved. Full stop on this matter and now it’s full focus on tomorrow’s match.” But on the matchday, fans became surprised when they saw that Cristiano Ronaldo failed to make the final playing XI against Switzerland as he was on the bench as one of the substitutes.
