Despite making several semi-final and final appearances, Manchester United has struggled to lift the title since Jose Mourinho led them to Carabao Cup and the Europa League wins. The club signed Bruno Fernandes but that too didn’t change their fortunes. Manchester United were knocked out of the quarter-final of the FA Cup and the semi-final of the EFL Cup. However, they are still in contention for the Europa League. The Old Trafford side needs to beat Granada to get into the semi-finals.
Talking about Manchester United’s miserable performances in the knock out games, Bruno Fernandes said that Manchester United is made for trophies, not the semi-finals.
"We can't think of anything else at this club. United is made for trophies and the whole mood is around that. We reached the semis {of the League Cup> and lost to City, but that's not enough. That wasn't our time. We need to be in finals and win them," Fernandes said, reported ESPN.
Manchester United have been in fine form this season and are placed second on the Premier League table. However, they are 14 points behind their rivals Manchester City. The Portuguese midfielder admitted that Manchester United needs to be consistent and stop dropping easy points. He further added that a lot of people didn’t expected Manchester United to be at the top of the table but the squad knew what they are capable of, adding that there is still some scope for improvement.
"We can't drop as many points as we do at home, but we've been in second, and at the start of the season there weren't many people who were saying United would be second. After a few games and a bad start, nobody was saying United could reach the top of the table, but we ignored what people were saying on the outside.
"We knew what we had said on the inside, we had confidence that things would improve, and they did. We still have to be the best United we can, but we have improved," added Fernandes.
