On 31 July 2023, Manchester United played another pre-season friendly game against Borussia Dortmund. But, they lost the match by 3-2 against the Bundesliga side. However, ahead of the clash, United fans went crazy as the Italian Football journalist, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Red Devils have struck a deal to sign young Danish striker, Rasmus Hojlund from the Serie A side, Atalanta.
The Ligue 1 side named Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) side were also linked with the striker but United managed to acquire the services of the striker reportedly. Now, regarding that, his International teammate and Manchester United’s star midfielder, Christian Eriksen opened up and claimed him to be a very good player.
“He’s a nice guy, he’s a good player.” - Christian Eriksen on Rasmas Hojlund
Eriksen said: “What’s he like? He’s a strong number nine. He’s developed a lot in the last year from when I first saw him with the national team (to) a year’s time, so, yeah, he’s a very good player. I suppose we don’t get enough media attention in Denmark that’s why, so people outside Denmark don’t know enough.
“He’s a nice guy, he’s a good player. Like I said, he’s developed, turning into just a nine, which he’s played for the national team. I have to be honest I haven’t seen that many games for Atalanta, but I know how they play and he fitted in well there, so, yeah, he’s a good player,” the Danish midfielder concluded. Ahead of the match against Dortmund, the United manager, Erik Ten Hag was also asked about the striker and he decided to be tightlipped for now in reply.
He said: "I'm a long time in football. First we have to finish something, then we can talk. You have to keep calm and let the professionals do their work." However, Rasmus Hojlund would be United’s third summer signing after the arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. In the last season, the Red Devils suffered for not having a proper number nine to their service who can score goals for fun. So, a huge session awaits Hojlund as fans will look an eye on him always.
