Cristiano Ronaldo had a good start to the FIFA World Cup 2022 when he faced Ghana in the opening fixture. He scored a penalty and opened his tally in this edition of the World Cup. However, before this World Cup, he made headlines by giving an explosive interview about his former club Manchester United.

As a result, on 22 November 2022, Manchester United confirmed the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo. The official statement from the club read: "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well in the future. Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."

After that, Ronaldo also issued a statement. “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future." Cristiano Ronaldo concluded. After all of this, he had a good start by scoring a goal against Ghana.

On 29 November, his team faced Uruguay in Lusail Stadium. It was an opportunity for Portugal to get qualified for the next round by winning that game. So, all eyes were on Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates. However, the first half of the game ended 0-0. But, in the second half, Portugal took a lead in the 54th minute and Bruno Fernandes scored the opener. He delivered a beautiful cross into the box for Ronaldo. Then, the Portuguese superstar jumped and thought that he had touched the ball which went into the goal. Thus, Ronaldo thought that it was his goal as he celebrated also. But, later it got confirmed that he did not have a touch as Bruno was the goal scorer. After watching that, fans came up and started to slam Ronaldo for claiming his teammate’s goal.
