In a big piece of news, the 35-year-old senior center-back Gerard Pique can probably accept a reduction in his wages from Barcelona. It also translates into the fact he will not receive a salary for the entire football season of 2022-23.
According to the reports of The Athletic “Pique has informed Barcelona that he's willing to 'drastically reduce' his salary in order to help register their new summer signings.”
But apart from this, there are also the speculations that Pique might get a salary when he will enter the last year of his contract with the club later in the season of 2023-24.

Although, it’s not something that is new to the fans of Barcelona and Gerard Pique when he went on to deduct his salary. He also did the same during the last season when the club was in a move to sign Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, and Eric Garcia.
Recently, the club has accepted that this gesture from the former Spanish international will help them to register the major names for the next season. This list includes the likes of Polish goal machine Robert Lewandowski alongside Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, and Franck Kessie.
The financial conundrum is still there in the middle for Barcelona before the commencement of the first game of the season against Raya Vallecano on Saturday.
Coming back to Gerard Pique, then the veteran player is associated with the club since 2008 and has spent almost one and a half decades. He signed a contract with the Spanish football giants on the 1st of July, 2008 and this contract is valid till the 30th of June 2024, almost two years later. His gesture is being respected in the footballing world by experts and the fans well.
Appearing in 603 matches for the club, he has scored 53 goals alongside 13 assists and unfortunately 146 yellow cards to his name. Other than Barcelona, he has also played for Real Zaragoza and Manchester United in 28 and 23 matches respectively.
