The fifth day of the FIFA World Cup 2022 witnessed some brilliant matches alongside an iconic goal from Brazilian center-forward Richarlison. The day also witnessed a record from veteran Portuguese center-forward Cristiano Ronaldo as he became both the youngest and oldest player to score a goal for his country.
In other matches, Switzerland defeated Cameroon by a score line of 1-0 to start their campaign with a win. So, without further ado, here we’ll have a look at the complete action of day five in the 22nd edition of the prestigious football quadrennial.
Match 1: Switzerland vs Cameroon
Switzerland under the captaincy of senior central mid-fielder Granit Xhaka locked horns with Cameron in their tournament opener of the FIFA World Cup 2022. But South Korea gave a tough fight to the 1950 title winners and succeeded in ending the match on a draw with a score line of 0-0.
Match 3: Portugal vs Ghana
In the match between Portugal and Ghana Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the only male footballer to score a goal in five FIFA World Cups surpassing Pele, Seeler, Klose, and Messi. Now, he is also the youngest and oldest goal scorer for Portugal in the tournament. Marta of Brazil and Canada’s Christine Sinclair have also scored at five World Cups among women footballers.
Eventually, Portugal registered a win of 3-0 against Ghana in their tournament opener and started their campaign in the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a win.
Match 4: Brazil vs Serbia
Five-time champions Brazil started their campaign in FIFA with a convincing win of 2-0 against Serbia in their tournament opener. A brilliant display of defense from Serbia in the first half including brilliant efforts from their goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic. But the star Brazilian center-forward Richarlison succeeded in penetrating it with two consecutive match-defining goals in favor of the Seleção. Yeah, the second goal from Tottenham star is probably the best goal of this ongoing edition so far. Eventually, it ended with a cherishing score line of 2-0.
Notably, Brazilian skipper Thiago Silva is now the oldest player for Brazil to feature in the FIFA World Cup.
