On 3 December 2022, the Netherlands took on the USA in the ongoing FIFA World Cup at Khalifa International Stadium. However, it was the first match in the Round of 16. Netherlands were coming off as the table topper in Group A with seven points in three matches.

On the other hand, the USA were coming off after managing second place in Group B with five points in three games. So, the stage was set for an enthralling battle between these sides. However, all eyes were on Cody Gakpo as he lit up the World Cup with his performances on the group stage.

Speaking of the match, the USA had an early chance to take a lead in the third minute. Christian Pulisic came up with an effort. But, Netherland’s goalkeeper Andries Noppert made a comfortable save. However, Memphis Depay scored the opener for the Netherlands in the 10th minute. Denzel Dumfries came up with a beautiful assist in that build-up. After that, the USA tried their level best for the equalizer. In the 43rd minute, Timothy Weah had a thunderous strike.
But, Noppert again came up with a smart save to deny him. Then, in the 45+1’ minute, Daley Blind doubled the lead for the Dutch while Dumfries managed his second assist of the night. Thus, the first half ended 2-0. In the second half, Weston McKennie came close to pulling back one goal in the 50th minute. But, Noppert was alert again to save it. In the 61st minute, Depay had a chance to score his brace.
But, the USA goalkeeper Matt Turner managed a finger-tipped save to deny him. In the 75th minute, Haji Wright had a golden chance to score for the USA. But, Dumfries cleared that effort from the edge of the goalline. However, he did not make a mistake in the next minute as he opened the scoring for his team. Pulisic came up with the assist. However, the Netherlands managed to score their third goal instantly in the 81st minute. Denzel Dumfries scored that goal while Daley Blind provided the assist. Finally, the game ended 3-1 in favor of the Dutch as they qualified for the quarter-finals.
