FIFA World Cup 2022, Match 33 and 34, Group A: Senegal edge past Ecuador 2-1 while Netherlands register their third straight win

On 29 November 2022, Ecuador took on Senegal at Khalifa International Stadium in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. On the other hand, the Netherlands locked horns with the host nation Qatar in Al Bayt Stadium. All teams were playing their last group stage matches in order to get qualified for the next round.

Speaking of forms. Qatar already got knocked out before this clash by losing both of their first two games. The Netherlands were looking to concreate their place at the top of the group by defeating them. In the other clash, both Senegal and Ecuador were looking for a win as a win only could take them to the knockout stages.

Before this clash, eyes were on the Ecuador captain, Enner Valencia as he suffered an injury in the last match. But, he started the game for his country. In the third and ninth minutes of the game, Senegal’s Idrissa Gana Gueye and Boulaye Dia missed two chances respectively. It was a bright start from Senegal to Ecuador. 

Then, in the 24th minute, Ismaila Sarr tried to curl in a ball toward the top corner after he made a cut in. But, he also failed to convert it. In the 44th minute, Senegal got a penalty and Sarr scored from the spot. Thus, the first half ended 1-0. In the second half, Moises Caicedo scored the equalizer for Ecuador in the 67th minute while Felix Torres assisted him. But, Senegal responded instantly as Kalidou Koulibaly scored the second goal. Finally, the game ended 2-1 in favor of Senegal.      

Qatar vs Netherlands

Qatar had a great chance to take an early lead in the clash in the third minute. But, they failed to do so, thanks to the Dutch goalkeeper Andries Noppert. Then, the Netherlands started to take a grip on the match as they came up with numerous attacks. But, in the 26th minute, youngster Cody Gakpo scored again and Davy Klaasen provided the assist.

Thus, the first half ended 1-0. In the second half, Frenkie de Jong doubled the lead for the Dutch in the 49th minute. Then, both teams tried hard to add goals to their tally. But, Qatar failed to score and the match ended 2-0 in favor of the Dutch.
