Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal took on Uruguay on 29 November 2022 in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. It was a Group H clash that took place in Lusail Stadium. Portugal had a winning start to their World Cup campaign. They managed to win a thriller against Ghana by 3-2. On the other hand, Uruguay were coming off after a draw with South Korea.
So, Portugal were looking to seal their berth in the next round by winning this clash. While Uruguay were looking to register their first win in this tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo also managed to score a goal in the opening fixture. Thus, he became the first player to score in five World Cups. So, all eyes were on him again before this game.

Speaking of the match, till the first 30 minutes, both teams failed to look comfortable. Players were trying to create some chances. But, they failed miserably. Then, in the 32nd minute, Uruguay’s Rodrigo Bentancur made a brilliant run through the middle into the Portugal box. But, the Portugal keeper, Diogo Costa came out and made a brave save to deny him.
After that, in the 36th minute, Bentancur had another chance. But, his effort went wide off the target. Portugal failed to create any significant chances as the first half ended 0-0. In the second half, fans were hoping to see a better performance from the Portuguese players. In the 52nd minute, Joao Felix managed a low shot which ended with the side netting only. Then, in the 54th minute, Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock for his country. He provided a beautiful cross into the box and Ronaldo jumped high to have a little touch to head that ball into the net.
He celebrated the goal as he thought that he had a touch while attempting. But, later it got confirmed that it was Bruno Fernandes's goal only. Then, Uruguay came up with some great chances. But, they failed to score the much-needed equalizer. In the 90th minute, the referee gave a penalty decision in favor of Portugal after reviewing the decision. Bruno Fernandes did not make any mistakes as he completed his brace. He also hit the post in the 90+8' minute and missed the chance of getting a World Cup hat-trick. Thus, Portugal won the match by 2-0 and qualified for the knockout stage.
