Day 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 witnessed four interesting encounters between the eight teams of Group C and Group D. Two-time World Champions Argentina locked horns with Saudi Arabia in the first match of the day from Group C. It was followed by the second clash between Denmark and Tunisia from Group D.
The third match of the day was played between Mexico and Poland from Group C. The defending champions France took on Australia from Group D in the last encounter of the itinerary.
With said that, here we’ll have a look at the complete round-up of day three of the 22nd edition of this most prestigious quadrennial event of football.
Match 1 – Argentina vs South Africa
The footballing world witnessed one of the most shocking upsets in the history of the World Cup when a lower-ranked team like Saudi Arabia thrashed the 1986 World Champions with a margin of 2-1. La Selección was leading in most parts of the match but eventually, they couldn’t capitalize it into a win. Three out of the four goals scored by Argentina in the first half were denied due to the back-to-back offsides. Skipper and veteran winger Lionel Messi was the only goal-scorer for Argentina in the match.
Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari emerged as the two heroes for Argentina by scoring goals in the 48th and 53rd minute of the match respectively.
Result of the Match – Saudi Arabia defeated Argentina by 2-1.
Match 2 – Denmark vs Tunisia
Denmark and Tunisia locked horns in the second match of the day at the Education City Stadium. Both teams displayed a brilliant game of soccer in the match. Speaking of the stats of the match, it was only the ball possession where Denmark dominated the Tunisian side. Denmark kept the 62% possession of the ball with them.
Other than this, both teams gave an equal fight to each other, and eventually, the match ended in a draw with the score line of 0-0.
Match 3 – Mexico vs Poland
Mexico and Poland played against each other in the third match of day 3 of the ongoing Qatar edition of the FIFA World Cup. Although it was Mexico who dominated the maximum part of the match with an upper hand in all the departments on the ground. They had four shots on target but couldn’t translate either of them into a goal. On the other hand, the Polish side also showed some fighting instinct with having 2 shots on target out of the 6 they attempted but they too failed to change the score line at the time final whistle of the match.
Match 4 – France vs Australia
The defending champions France took on the 38th-ranked Australia in the fourth fixture of the third day of the World Cup. Both teams came up in the middle with the same line-up of 4-3-3. The 36-year-old senior center-forward Olivier Giroud made a difference for France by scoring two individual goals. Other than him, Adrien Rabiot and Kylian Mbappe also scored one goal each for the reigning champions.
Eventually, France won their tournament opener against Australia by a handsome margin of 4-1.
