Lionel Messi has changed Major League Soccer since his move to Inter Miami FC. Just like Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia and Al-Nassr, the MLS has become a major football destination.
Luis Suarez has recently joined the American club to rekindle his partnership with his best friend. As per reports the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud are also set to join the American soccer revolution.
Dallas FC president Dan Hunt was in conversation with The Dallas Morning News. Mr. Hunt had nothing but good things to say about Lionel Messi and all the European talent heading to the USA.
Lionel Messi earns huge praise
While speaking to the Dallas Morning about Argentina legend Lionel Messi, FC Dallas president Dan Hunt was in full praise. “You’re talking about one of the greatest players of all time, if not the greatest. I mean, it really comes down to Lionel Messi or Pele”
Speaking further Dan Hunt said “Diego Maradona was a great player, I understand how people feel about him. But the league is too energized by this and the amount of top talent you see from Europe now wanting to play in the MLS. We got great players over time like David Beckham, but now it guys still in their prime, wanting to come”
Meanwhile, Brad Freidel too has come out and praised Lionel Messi for the impact he has had so far. During his chat with LiveScore, the former Liverpool goalkeeper said “I’ll put it this way, their stadium is up in Fort Lauderdale, they are building a new one in Miami at the moment. But generally, you wouldn’t have really known there was an MLS team here because everything was out of the city in Fort Lauderdale”
The veteran also said “But the second Messi was signed, his face was everywhere, pink Inter Miami shirts were everywhere and on billboards. The impact has been enormous”. Since the time Messi has gone to MLS, the teams have been invited to play in other parts of the world.
Summarizing this Brad Friedel said “Just look at the pre-season tour, they’re getting invited to play in El Salvador, then they are going to Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia. MLS teams don’t usually get invited to games like that. The impact is enormous, probably bigger than anyone could have imagined”
Even former US player Geoff Cameron was complimentary about Messi during a chat with TalkSport. “Now Messi has come here to the US, what his viewership brings and what he has accomplished just raises the level here in the MLS”
