Liverpool secured the Carabao Cup in an electrifying final clash against Chelsea, as Virgil van Dijk's powerful header in extra time sealed a hard-earned 1-0 win.This is tenth time that the Liverpool have done this and it is also the second time within the gap of two years when the legendary club have owned this glory.

In a tense Carabao Cup final showdown between Liverpool and Chelsea, both teams had early chances to break the deadlock. One of the major highlights from the first half was the moment when Caoimhin Kelleher made a crucial save for Liverpool, denying Cole Palmer. In reply, Wataru Endo also made a vital block. Moreover, Moises Caicedo's foul forced Ryan Gravenberch off with an injury, prompting an early substitution for Liverpool, with Joe Gomez replacing him.

Interestingly, towards the closure of the first half Chelsea thought they had scored through Raheem Sterling, but the goal was disallowed for offside. On the other hand, Liverpool also came close with Andy Robertson's cross finding Cody Gakpo, whose header hit the post. Luis Diaz missed a chance shortly after.

Virgil van Dijk last moment strike did it for Liverpool

In the second half, both teams continued to create opportunities. Harvey Elliott's move to midfield injected energy into Liverpool's attack, but they were denied by Djordje Petrovic's saves. Virgil van Dijk appeared to score, but the goal was controversially ruled out for offside after VAR technology was used.

As the game went into extra time, both teams pressed for a winner. Conor Gallagher and Axel Disasi came close for Chelsea, while Gakpo missed another chance for Liverpool. Klopp made substitutions, bringing on Jayden Danns, Kostas Tsimikas, and James McConnell. In the dying moments of extra time, the pivotal moment arrived as Liverpool earned a corner. Tsimikas executed the delivery with precision, locating Van Dijk, who made amends for his earlier frustration by nodding a header beyond Chelsea's goalkeeper.
