Virgil van Dijk last moment strike did it for Liverpool
In the second half, both teams continued to create opportunities. Harvey Elliott's move to midfield injected energy into Liverpool's attack, but they were denied by Djordje Petrovic's saves. Virgil van Dijk appeared to score, but the goal was controversially ruled out for offside after VAR technology was used.
As the game went into extra time, both teams pressed for a winner. Conor Gallagher and Axel Disasi came close for Chelsea, while Gakpo missed another chance for Liverpool. Klopp made substitutions, bringing on Jayden Danns, Kostas Tsimikas, and James McConnell. In the dying moments of extra time, the pivotal moment arrived as Liverpool earned a corner. Tsimikas executed the delivery with precision, locating Van Dijk, who made amends for his earlier frustration by nodding a header beyond Chelsea's goalkeeper.
