Atletico Madrid defeated their crosstown rivals Real Madrid by a 4-2 margin to book their berth in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. It was two goals in extra time from Antoine Griezmann and Rodrigo Riquelme sent Atletico into the last eight. The Civitas Metropolitano stadium witnessed Atleti's sweet revenge for losing to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.

A few days back, a thrilling encounter took place in Saudi Arabia, where Real Madrid defeated Atletico 5-3 to secure their place in the final of the tournament.
