Ultraliga, one of the most popular Eastern European League of Legends events and a part of the EMEA Masters circuit, have now suspended two professional League players for match-fixing allegations.
Jungler Wen “Kylin” Zheng and mid-laner Shuai “Odin” Wang are playing for Iron Wolves against devils.one were both suspended by Ultraliga. As per the official statement, both of them violate the tournament regulations.
“In light of the events that occurred during yesterday's match between Iron Wolves and Team ESCA Gaming, we have decided to suspend players Wen “Kylin” Zheng and Shuai “Odin” Wang for the next two games,” the statement said.
Reason for being suspended?
Both Kylin and Odin are accused of violating Section 17.1.1 of the EMEA Regional League regulations. Players were penalized with the maximum penalty Ultraliga can impose on players.
The section states, “Teams are expected to play at their best at all times within any League Match and to avoid any behaviour that potentially threatens the actual or perceived integrity of competition or that is otherwise inconsistent with the principles of good sportsmanship, honesty, or fair play.”
Ultraliga also revealed that other members of Iron Wolves are not involved in the matter. They are also currently cooperating with the investigation. The decision to suspend the players were also taken after consultation with Iron Wolves representatives.
How did the match-fixing happen?
While the full details are not yet public, kylin and Odin were playing very suspiciously. Multiple instances of waiting for their super and abilities were noted. In some cases, both plates completely forgot to use their abilities.
Despite that, their team still won the game, even with two team members playing against them. It is not clear if both of them made a deal with some external party. Further investigation on the matter will be done by both Ultraliga and Riot.
