Group stages for Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Katowice have concluded. Six teams will now be moving into the Playoffs leading to the grand finals. This year, Young Blood has surprised multiple veteran teams.
Straight off the bat, we have Natus Vincere (NaVi), Heroic and Team Vitality, knocked out of the tournament. This is also the first time in 10 years, that NaVi did not qualify for the playoff at the IEM.
Here are the results of Group Stage finals -
Upper brackets - Both finalists in the upper bracket had already qualified, so the fight was mainly for a better spot in the Playoff. The winner of the group stages would get a direct spot in the semifinals, while the losers would battle for the spot with lower bracket winners.
- Group A
FaZe Clan Vs Team Spirit - Like NaVi, Faze also faced a crushing 2-0 defeat by Team Spirit, which seems unstoppable at the moment. The first match saw Faze putting up a fight but ultimately losing. The second map saw Team Spirit dominating, ending the match with a 13-5 score.
- Group B
ENCE Vs MOUZ - ENCE, who bested Team Vitality and G2 esports, fell hard against MOUZ. With a swift defeat, there was nothing more to watch than ENCE struggling to keep up. The matches came to a close with MOUZ taking both maps with 13-5 and 13-3 scorelines.
Lower Brackets - The lower bracket teams had a do-or-die situation. Only one of the two teams would move forward to the playoffs.
- Group A
Team Falcons Vs NaVi - Team Falcons also surprised their fans by defeating NaVi and ending their run with a 2-0 score. The first match did get intense, with both teams only performing on the CT side. However, the Falcons took the win with a 13-11 score. The second map saw NaVi struggling and ultimately losing.
- Group B
Heroic Vs G2 esports - After falling to G2 esports in the first round of upper brackets, Heroic made their way to lower bracket finals, only to fall again in front of G2. Despite putting up a great fight, Heroic was not able to win, losing both maps with a score of 9-13 and 8-13.
