Dale Steyn recently stated that the other cricketing leagues in the world were more rewarding as compared to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The South African pacer had opined that there are big squads and marquee names that participate in the IPL.

Steyn had also added that in the IPL, there was so much emphasis on the money that the players earn, and cricket takes a backseat at times. This is what Steyn had to say about the IPL while speaking to Cricket Pakistan.

“I have found that playing in other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player. When you go to IPL, there are such big squads and there are so many big names and there’s so much emphasis on the amount of money that the players earn that sometimes, somewhere along the line the cricket gets forgotten,” said Steyn.

Steyn was hammered on social media for his comments on the IPL. And now, he has come out and tweeted once again regarding the matter. The pacer has now stated that the IPL and the players who take part in it are ‘amazing’.  He added that his tweets were never meant to be degrading, or insulting in any way. He also apologised for his comments on the IPL.

“IPL has been nothing short of amazing in my career, as well as other players too. My words were never intended to be degrading, insulting, or comparing of any leagues. Social media and words out of context can often do that. My apologies if this has upset anyone. Much love,” tweeted Steyn.

Steyn is a veteran in IPL cricket. The speedster has played 95 matches in the league and picked up 97 wickets. He is also the leading wicket taker for South Africa in Test cricket, and has scalped 439 wickets in the whites. Earlier, he also pulled out of the IPL 2021.
