Indian players bagged some medals on day two of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. But on the other hand, the second day came up with very tough luck for the Indian table tennis team. The defending champions were there in the middle to defend their gold medal of the last commonwealth games in Gold Coast.

Although, the start of the campaign went very well for the Indian team as both men’s and women’s teams won in their respective competitions. With these wins, in the beginning, they qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition.

The Indian fans expressed their disappointment after the loss of the current champions. They took to Twitter for criticizing and analyzing the performance of the team.

Speaking about the women’s team of India in the table tennis competition, then the reigning champions were playing under the leadership of senior player Manika Batra. They played their first match against Ghana which they won comfortably.

But later on, in the quarterfinals of the competition, the Indian side and Manika herself choked against a low-ranked team and low-ranked players of Malaysia. The Malaysian team won the match with a good score line of 3-2 to enter the semifinals at the CWG 2022 in Birmingham.

The Saturday seemed quite a bit charming day for the Indian weightlifter as they won three medals of three different colors for the Indian contingent. Sanket Mahadev Sargar opened up the medal tally of India by winning silver in his competition. Later on,  Gururaja went on to bag the bronze medal in his kit.

By the end of the day, a piece of amazing news came for India when senior weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg event. It is her second consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, she bagged the yellow metal CWG 2018. Apart from this, the 28-year-old has also the silver medal in Commonwealth Games to her name which she won in the 2014 Glasgow Games.

She has also registered medals for India in different championships and tournaments at the international level.
