After the speech, Duran Duran will perform in front of billions of television audiences and 35,000 spectators in the revamped Alexander Stadium. Notably, Charles will also read a message from the Queen. The message will be carried to the event in the Commonwealth Games Baton. It is to be noted that the United Kingdom is hosting a multi-sport event after the 2012 Olympics.

Members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Royal, and Earl and Countess of Wessex, will also visit various events at Birmingham. A palace spokesperson confirmed that he will meet everyone involved in the games such as athletes, volunteers, etc. Meanwhile, last month, Charles, during a summit of Commonwealth leaders in Rwanda, said that in a world currently riven by conflict and division, the games stand as shining celebration of unity, diversity, and pursuit of shared excellence.

"In a world currently riven by conflict and division, these Games - so aptly called 'the friendly games' - stand as a shining celebration of our unity, our diversity and our pursuit of shared excellence."

South Africa won the Gold medal beating Australia in the final. This time around, women's teams will play in the games. Also, in 98, 50-over games were played but 20-over games will be played this time around
