After winning 61 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, the Indian contingent finished fourth for the second consecutive time in the CWG. Indian athletes performed exceptionally well throughout the entire tournament. Finally, the Birmingham Games have been wrapped up with the closing ceremony yesterday i.e., on the 8th of August 2022.
Speaking of the Indian contingent, then Indian athletes participated in five gold medal matches on the 11th and last day of the Games. Out of these five contests, Indians won four and won four gold medals except for a disappointing loss in the men’s hockey final against Australia.
Apart from this, the 40-year-old senior table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal won the gold medal in men’s singles following another gold medal won by Sathiya Gnanasekaran. Olympic medalist shuttler PV Sindhu also added gold to the Indian count of medals. Lakshya also accompanied Sindhu in the gold as he won the gold medal in the men’s singles final Badminton.
