High Jumper, Tejaswin Shankar can finally breathe easy. He had spent many sleepless nights after not finding his name Indian athletics contingent for the Birmingham CWG. The high jumper took to write on Twitter that he was waiting for his name to be included in the athletics contingent for the commonwealth games 2022.
Much to the delight of the fans, the good news finally came calling on Friday for the country's prolific high jumper. The events took a sudden turn when Tejaswin's name was cleared to be part of the athletic contingent for CWG by the Birmingham organizers after a ‘Delegate Registration of the chief de missions at the athletes village on Friday.
The acceptance of his entry was confirmed to the Indian Olympic association from the Commonwealth Games Federation Organizers.
"I am at loss of words, I can't say now whether I am happy or sad. It has been a roller-coaster of emotions. I can't believe even now that I have been cleared for the CWG. I can't say I am surprised or shocked. It has been 'haan aur naa' (yes and no), it has been like that for five to six times, so it is hard to believe," said Shankar.
The 23-year-old said that he had to endure a lot and would be looking to pick up the pieces. The High Jumper said that he would be looking to give his best at the event and also expressed his hope in getting the visa formalities done quickly.
"I have endured a lot and I need to pick up the pieces. I am not thinking about medal or even the competition itself. I can only say that I will give my best at the Games."
"I have to first complete visa formalities, I have not done anything. Hopefully, it will be done on time," said Shankar.
The 23-year-old won a case after he challenged his exclusion from the Indian athletics team for the CWG at the Delhi High Court. The AFI later told the court that Shankar’s name has been included in the team in place of Arokia Rajiv, who was in the initial 37-member team.
