Yuzvendra Chahal has been synonymous with the Bangalore-based franchise. Over the years, he has been one of their biggest match-winners. Hence, Bangalore's decision to not retain him ahead of the mega auction was shocking, to say the least.
Several fans were shocked over the fact that the 2016-champions didn't show more interest in getting the leggie back. When it comes to Chahal's career in the Indian T20 league, he has picked 139 wickets in 113 games at an average of 22.28. This includes two four-fers as well.
Chahal recently revealed that Bangalore didn't even ask him if he wanted to be retained. During a recent interview, he stated that Mike Hesson (Bangalore's Director of Cricket) only told him that they plan on retaining three players, them being Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell. He also said that he would have said yes if he was offered to be retained.
“People and fans on social media are still asking me ‘why did you ask for this much money (for retention)?. The reality is that Mike Hesson called me and said ‘Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj). I was told that – ‘we will go for you in the auction’. Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention," said Yuzvendra Chahal, as quoted by Sports Tiger.
Owing to the spinner's record in the shortest format of the game, even the analysts and experts were baffled by Bangalore's decision to not retain him. Nevertheless, several teams had their eye on him. During the mega auction, Rajasthan acquired his services for INR 6.50 crore.
Thus, he will be seen bowling alongside Ravichandran Ashwin in the Indian T20 league 2022. Chahal has already grabbed the headlines as Rajasthan's player, as he has been up to several social media shenanigans. Hence, it will be exciting to watch him play against Bangalore in this edition.
