Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has come up with his opinion after the defeat of Pakistan against the arch-rivals India. Sehwag went on to take a sly dig at Pakistani bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for his approach while bowling the final over in the match against India. Notably, the moment when skipper Babar Azam introduced Mohammad Nawaz into the attack, India needed 16 runs off the last over.
While expressing his opinion on the breathtaking T20I clash between two South Asian Giants, Virender Sehwag stated Nawaz shouldn’t have tried the innovative things and he should have stuck to his regular and natural left-arm spin deliveries. The former explosive opener also opined that Nawaz is no Wasim Akram.
Yes, 16 runs are not less but don't be afraid to bowl – Virender Sehwag
"Had I been there, I would have advised him to bowl normal left-arm spin because you are going to be hit for runs, but there should be no worries. Yes, 16 runs are not less but don't be afraid to bowl. Why are you even trying to attempt something that you have never done in your entire life with the ball in hand? Wasim Akram thodi na hai aap. Toh Phir Kyun Karna? (You aren't Wasim Akram then why (attempt seam-up bowling)),” said Sehwag to CricBuzz.
Although, captain Babar’s decision of giving the ball in hands of Nawaz when he got the well-set Hardik Pandya on the first ball of the over. He also didn’t let Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik go for big hits on the next three balls, but things changed when Kohli smashed a six on his waist-height no-ball that turned into a controversial debate later.
It resulted in a free hit for India and Virat fetched three runs later on free hit ball went straight into the stumps. Eventually, India held the nerves in this high-octane clash and won by a margin of four wickets.
