Bangalore franchise kicked off their Indian T20 League season on 2 April 2023 as they took on Mumbai. All eyes were on Virat Kohli as fans were hoping for a good season with the bat from the veteran batter. In the last edition, he scored only 341 runs in 16 matches, at an average of 22.73.
So, the former Bangalore skipper was also looking for a good start in the tournament. However, ahead of this edition, Virat Kohli came up with some clear messages for Bangalore and its fans. He said that if he manages to reach the level at which he wants to play, that will help the franchise.
Virat Kohli scored 82* runs off 49 balls against Mumbai in the Indian T20 League 2023
Virat Kohli said: “It was just about rediscovering the love for the game. That could happen when I stepped away from what was happening on the field for so long. I was trying to find ways when I was exhausted. I needed to connect myself as a human first, not judge myself constantly or keep myself under the scrutiny all the time. Staying away from the game helped me.”
“That helped me rediscover the excitement and love for the game. When I came back, everything was an opportunity, nothing was pressure. The results followed. I was able to play well in T20Is, ODIs, and recently in the Test series as well. I'm back to playing the way I do, there's still a lot of room to get to my best, which hopefully happens in the Indian T20 League if I get to the level I really want to play. That would help the team,” Kohli further added.
Speaking of the match, Mumbai batted first and scored 171 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Kohli and du Plessis lit up the chase as they put up a 100-run partnership in just 10.3 overs. Finally, Virat Kohli scored 82* runs off 49 balls and Bangalore won the match by eight wickets against Mumbai.
