India levelled the ongoing T20I series against West Indies with a dominant 9-wicket win over the hosts in Florida. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal remained the star of the show for the visitors as they chased down a challenging target of 179 within 17 overs with just one wicket falling. While Shubman Gill smashed 77 off 47, including three fours and five sixes, Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 84 off 51, including 11 fours and three sixes. He finished the game for India and was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning knock.

However, the change of fortunes was for Shubman Gill who struggled to score runs in the limited-over games on the West Indies tour until now. The young batter opened up on his mindset before coming out to bat in the fourth T20I and also revealed a key reason why he performed so well.

‘This looked like a good wicket so my intention was to capitalise’ – Shubman Gill

“I couldn’t score 10 runs in the first 3 matches, but this looked like a good wicket so my intention was to capitalise on it. Once I got off to a good start, I hoped to end the game, we had a good powerplay and we looked to play the next couple of overs well which would finish the game and that’s how it panned out,” said Gill.

“These are the basics, you must identify whether you’re doing any mistakes. I felt I didn’t make any mistakes, but I couldn’t convert it well. That’s how the T20I format can be, sometimes you end up giving away a catch. You tend to always think about scoring runs, it’s just one needs to follow their own template," he added.

Earlier, West Indies successfully defeated the visitors to take a 2-0 lead in the series. However, the visitors pulled two back in the third and the fourth T20I to level the series at 2-2. Now, the fate of the series will be decided in the fifth and final T20I on Sunday, August 13 at the same venue as the fourth match in Florida, USA.
