Rinku Singh was given his debut cap in the first match of the ongoing three-match T20I series in Ireland. But, in that match, he did not get an opportunity to bat. So, fans were eagerly waiting to see him in action with the bat when Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat first in the second match.
However, the star KKR batter lived up to fans’ expectations as he smashed 38 runs off 21 balls, including two fours and three sixes. He and Shivam Dube also put up a 55-run partnership for the fifth wicket in just 28 balls. It helped India to post a total of 185 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the home side scored only 152 runs for eight wickets and lost the game by 33 runs.
“Been playing cricket for ten years and getting rewarded for the hard work.” - Rinku Singh
Speaking about Rinku’s innings, it was eventually his debut innings for Team India and it seemed that the batter was taking some time to get settled initially. In the first 15 deliveries, he scored only 15 runs, including only one four. But, after that, he unleashed his power-hitting skills and on the next five deliveries he faced, hit three sixes and one four. It was some eye-catching shots that left fans happy. However, it did not prevent him from winning the Player of the Match award.
During the post-match presentation, he said: “I was confident and trying to use the IPL experience. Was trying to take the game deep. Been playing cricket for ten years and getting rewarded for the hard work. Happy to get the Man-of-the-Match award in the first game I've batted in international cricket.” Notable, he had a great IPL 2023 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as Rinku scored 474 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 149.53. He also smashed four fifties. The Southpaw batter hit the headlines when he smashed five consecutive sixes in the last over to win a game against Gujarat Titans (GT).
