On May 19, Jaiswal broke the 15-year-old record for the most runs scored by an uncapped batter in a single season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 625 runs. During Rajasthan Royals' final league match against Punjab Kings, the 21-year-old accomplished the feat.
Jaiswal set a new record for the most runs scored in an IPL season, surpassing Shaun Marsh's previous mark of 616 runs set in 2008. Marsh held the record for 15 years despite not having previously represented Australia.
Jaiswal also entered a select club of players under the age of 25 who have scored more than 600 runs in an IPL season. Marsh, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are on the list. Gaikwad supplied 636 runs in 2021, Pant scored 684 runs in 2018, and Kohli scored 634 runs in 2013.
Robin Uthappa was all-praises for Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are among the biggest things coming to Indian cricket, according to former cricketer for India Robin Uthappa. In the IPL 2023, both young, skilled players have shown considerable promise.
"Extremely special. Along with Shubman Gill, he (Jaiswal) is one the biggest things of the Indian cricket. Not just maturity, I think hunger. You can see it in his eyes, he wants it so badly, and that is fantastic. Don't stop, young man," Uthappa said on JioCinema.
Gill, the opening batsman for the Gujarat Titans, has 576 runs in 13 games of the current IPL 2023. GT was the first club to earn a spot in the IPL playoffs for the second year running, thanks to Gill's first hundred in the league.
Jaiswal scored his sixth fifty of the IPL 2023 season during the game against PBKS and RR. After his partner Jos Buttler was out for a duck, he reached the landmark in just 35 balls. Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel could continue the chase when Jaiswal left the pitch for 50 from 36 balls in the 15th over.
By defeating Punjab Kings by four wickets, Rajasthan Royals maintained their tenuous chance of making it to the IPL 2023 playoffs. Jaiswal recorded two hundred during the IPL 2023 season, including 124 off 62 balls against the Mumbai Indians, which set a new record for an uncapped hitter. Jaiswal consistently maintained a strike rate of more than 160 and a strong average of 50, solidifying his qualifications for a prospective call-up to the Indian national squad.
