Mohammad Amir's management has been approached by a key member of the Pakistani selection committee, who has urged him to let the left-arm bowler know that he needs to get ready for an international comeback.

The selector has reportedly told Amir to concentrate on his cricket and avoid making superfluous comments in the media that could spark a debate. According to the source, he will soon be requested to take his retirement back, so he needs to keep working out and staying in shape until then. In 2020, Amir ended his international career in protest at the treatment he had experienced from the Misbah ul Haq-led management at the time.

'Can play for Pakistan if Amir takes his retirement back' – Najam Sethi

"Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty," said Sethi.

In an interview with Cricket Pakistan earlier this year, Pakistan's head selector, Haroon Rasheed, reaffirmed Sethi's position on the choice of Amir.

"I feel players should take decisions after careful consideration. Your single statement can cause controversy. In my opinion, players should focus on their cricket," Haroon said. "In Amir's case, I am not sure about his status. I have heard he is thinking of taking his retirement back. It is good that he is playing. If he continues to perform, he will be in contention for selection like other players," he added.

Amir continues to play in tournaments worldwide despite having retired from the international competition; most recently, he represented Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League season 8. His return might not have the impact he had hoped for because Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and now Ihsanullah are ahead of him in the line for consideration when choosing international squads.
