India’s tour of the West Indies will begin on 12 July as they will play two Tests first. Then, three ODIs will be played followed by five T20Is. However, the T20I squad has been announced already and veteran batters like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not been included. Many new names like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma were considered.
Now, in an exclusive chat with RevSportz, the former Team India skipper, Sourav Ganguly opened up about their exclusion from the T20I squad for the upcoming West Indies series. Meanwhile, on 8 July 2023, Ganguly celebrated his 51st birthday. So, hearing his opinion, fans shared their views on social media.
“I cannot see why a Kohli or a Rohit cannot play T20I cricket.” - Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly said: “Pick your best players, it doesn’t matter who they are. In my opinion, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma still have a place in T20I cricket and I cannot see why a Kohli or a Rohit cannot play T20I cricket. Kohli was in great form in the IPL, and both have place in T20 cricket, if you ask me.”
Regarding the new players like Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma who missed out on the squad, he said: “They just have to keep playing. They will have to keep performing in whatever chances they get. It happens all the time. Only 15 can be picked in the squad, and 11 can play. So, somebody has to miss out. I am pretty sure their time will come.”
He was also asked if Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid would feel pressure ahead of the home ODI World Cup later this year. Ganguly added: “Pressure will always be there. When they played before also, there was pressure. Rohit Sharma has five centuries in the last ODI World Cup. I am sure there must have been pressure on him then also. Pressure is not a problem. I am sure they will find a way to succeed. During Rahul Dravid’s playing days, there was pressure to perform, and now that he is the head coach, there is pressure on him to deliver. That will not go away, and I don’t think pressure is an issue.”

Yes Agree, Kohli was in great form in IPL and before IPL too. And he should be in T20I setup.
