The action returned in the Indian Premier League 2023 with a doubleheader on Saturday. For the day's first game, Rajasthan Royals hosted Delhi Capitals in their second-choice home ground, Guwahati. At the same time, the second game of the day is the El Clasico of IPL, where Mumbai Indians are hosting Chennai Super Kings in the Wankhede Stadium in a real heavyweights clash.
Regarding the day's first game, the visitors, Delhi Capitals, won the toss and decided to bowl first, inviting the home side to use the willow. Rajasthan started off well with the opening stand between Jos Butler (79 off 51) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (60 off 31), yielding 98 runs in 8.3 overs. A final flourish by Shimron Hetmyer (39 off 21) took Rajasthan's team total to 199/4 from their 20 overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult completed 3-wicket hauls
For the team from the national capital, Mukesh Kumar remained the pick of the bowlers picking up two wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Rovman Powell returned with one scalp each from the game, conceding 31 (4 overs) and 18 runs (2 overs), respectively.
In reply, the Capitals started off disastrously, losing their first two wickets without a single run on the board. Opener Prithvi Shaw was the first to depart, whereas top-order batter Manish Pandey followed him, both wickets going to pacer Trent Boult. David Warner (65 off 55) and Lalit Yadav (38 off 24) tried to steady up the innings, but Delhi could only reach ---. For the Royals, Yuzvendra Chahal remained the pick of the bowlers retruning with 3/27 in four overs.
Next in the Indian Premier League, another doubleheader awaits fans on Sunday. For the day's first game, defending champions Gujarat Titans will host Kolkata Knight Riders in their backyard. Gujarat are undefeated so far in this year's edition, whereas KKR are riding high following their win over RCB. For the second game, SRH and PBKS will lock horns in Hyderabad. SRH has so far had a forgettable start to the IPL; they'd eye to register their first win, playing in the comfort of their home.
