‘Yeh Goyenka danga karwake chodega’ - Mohun Bagan accuse KKR of not allowing LSG supporters wearing Green and Maron Jersey during IPL 2023 clash at Eden Gardens

On 20 May 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on Luckow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, before the match, LSG announced that they will don the famous Green and Maron Jersey for the match to honour the legacy of the Kolkata football club, Mohun Bagan which is also the defending ISL champion.

So, it was expected that many Mohun Bagan fans will attend the KKR vs LSG clash in support of LSG. Some fans were also seen in the game as LSG managed to defeat KKR by one run. But, many reports came out that KKR management denied some LSG supporters wearing the Green and Maron Jersey from entering Eden Gardens. Now, on 21 May, Mohun Bagan also shared an official press release to condemn the decision of the KKR management.

KKR got eliminated from IPL 2023 after the loss against LSG

In the press release, Mohun Bagan wrote: “It was a special match between KKR and LSG of IPL on 20th May 2023 at Eden Gardens for the supporters of Mohun Bagan because LSG was wearing a new Green and Maroon Jersey. But, the KKR management curtailed the freedom of the Mohun Bagan supporters (who are also fans of KKR and LSG) by not allowing them to enter the stadium as they were wearing the jersey of Mohun Bagan.”

“Since 1990, I have been watching FIFA World Cup matches by travelling to different parts of the world by wearing our National Club i.e., Mohun Bagan’s Jersey and I have never been stopped at anywhere. It is an individual’s right to support and wear the jersey of the team which he/she loves and supports. No one has the right to interfere in one’s own choice. Thus, Mohun Bagan Athletic Club strongly condemns this decision of KKR management for disrespecting the National Club of India and hurting the sentiment of our supporters,” it further added.
