Australia have taken an edge over the England team in the 2nd Test match of the Ashes 2023 series at Lord’s. Australian bowlers displayed a brilliant bowling performance in the 3rd day of the match where they dismissed the English batters on the score of 325 runs and took a massive lead of 91 runs.

Asked to bat first, Australia put up an outstanding batting performance and scored 416 runs in their first innings. Australian vice-captain Steve Smith smashed his 32nd Test century and set the foundation for a big total. Travis Head continued his magnificent form and scored 77 runs off just 73 balls which included 14 fours.

Coming to bat, openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett provided a brilliant start to England as they stitched a 91-run stand for the 1st wicket. After Crawley’s dismissal, Duckett stitched another big partnership of 97 runs with Ollie Pope. However, he missed his well-deserved century by just 2 runs.

Brilliant comeback by Australian bowlers

England’s batting lineup started collapsing after Duckett’s wicket and the Australian bowlers made a brilliant comeback in the match. However, England were still in a better position at the end of the 2nd day having Harry Brook and Ben Stokes in the middle. They were at 278/4 but lost their last 6 wickets for just 47 runs.

It was a great effort from the visitors as they bundled up the England batters without their lead spinner Nathan Lyon. Stokes probably had the idea to see through and bat deep, but Mitchell Starc got him on the second ball of the morning. And Brook also fell soon after his fifty as he was unable to handle the short ball barrage.

Jonny Bairstow then chipped on straight to hand to what was not a wicket-taking delivery. Pat Cummins teased the lower-order with spin and Travis Head got Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad in the same over, before captain Cummins finished the innings.
