Virat Kohli had a poor outing in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the Oval. In the first innings, he scored 14 runs while managing 49 runs in the second innings. Along with him, other batters failed miserably also as India lost the match by a huge margin of 209 runs. Kohli enjoyed a great IPL 2023 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Speaking of Kohli, when he came out to bat on day five along with Ajinkya Rahane, fans were hoping for a big knock as his overnight score was 44* runs. But, the former Team India skipper only added just five runs to that as he edged a ball outside of the off-stump. Steve Smith took a diving catch to dismiss him. His shot selection was so poor that it left former cricketers and fans disappointed.

While speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said: “It was a bad shot. It was an ordinary shot. You are asking me how he did that – but you should ask Kohli what shot he played. That was a shot outside the off stump. We talk so much about the fact that when you are going to win a match, you need a long innings, a century-plus innings. How are you going to get a century-plus innings, when you play a shot that is so far outside the off stump? He was batting on 49, and nearing a landmark. I don’t think Virat Kohli would have played that shot if he wasn’t near a personal landmark.”
