Ruturaj Gaikwad had a good IPL 2023 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with 590 runs in 16 matches. However, after that, he opted out of the stand-by players' list of the WTC final due to his marriage. Now, he is busy playing in the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) for Puneri Bappa.
The first match of the competition took place in Pune between Puneri Bappa and Kolhapur Tuskers. However, the CSK batter had a good outing as he smashed 64 runs off 27 balls, including five fours and five sixes. Seeing such a from the batter, fans shared their views on social media.

Speaking of the match, Puneri Bappa won the toss and opted to bowl first. While batting first, Kolhapur Tuskers registered 144 runs on the board for seven wickets in 20 overs. Kedar Jadhav scored 25 runs off 22 balls. While the other opener, Ankit Bawne smashed 72 runs off 57 balls, including five fours and three sixes. Both of them put up a partnership of 65 runs for the first wicket in just eight overs. Then, small contributions came from some batters.
For Puneri Bappa, both Sachin Bhosale and Piyush Salvi took three wickets each. While Rohan Damle picked up one wicket for 23 runs in four overs. In reply, Pavan Shah and Gaikwad gave a blistering start to Puneri Bappa. Their first wicket fell after they scored 110 runs in 10 overs. Along with the Bappa skipper’s 64 runs, Pavan scored 57 runs off 48 balls, including six fours and one six. They finally chased down the target in just 14.1 overs with eight wickets in hand. For Kolhapur Tuskers, Shreyash Chavan and Taranjit Singh grabbed one wicket each. Thus, Puneri Bappa kicked off the tournament with a thrashing win while Kedar Jadhav and his men suffered a loss in the tournament opener.
