There are multiple rumours which often surface on social media about the alleged rift between the two former great India cricketers MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir. However, these rumours never get proven right as whenever these 2 former players meet, they treat each other with great respect.
The rift is limited to the fans of both players as the supporters are often seen engaging in a war of words. But that is not the case with the players as Gambhir never leaves a chance to heap praise on the former legendary Indian captain. Once again, the former left-handed batter has spoken some good words about Dhoni but this time he has praised his batting.
“If MS Dhoni batted 1 down, he would have broken many white ball batting records. Captaincy took away some part of his batting, and he sacrificed his international runs for the team’s trophies.” Gambhir said in a conversation on Star Sports.
Rohit Sharma is Rohit Sharma today because of MS Dhoni: Gautam Gambhir
The current Indian team captain Rohit Sharma recently completed 10,000 runs in the ODI format and became the second-fastest player to achieve the feat. Gambhir believes that whatever Rohit has achieved today is because of Dhoni as he trusted him in his initial and struggling stage.
“Scoring 10,000 runs was not easy for him. Saw many ups and downs. Having seen that phase, Rohit, as a captain, will back youngsters who go through a difficult period. Rohit Sharma is Rohit Sharma today because of MS Dhoni. MS backed him continuously in his initial struggling phase. If he wants to leave a legacy behind, not in terms of runs but as a captain, a lot will depend on how he backs the young players. It will be interesting to see how he grooms the upcoming players,” he said.
