'Yaar..Fight to dikahte': Supernovas demolish Trailblazers in the opening match of Women's T20 Challenge 2022

Supernovas earned a comfortable victory against Trailblazers in the first match of the Women's T20 Challenge 2022.

The first match of the Women's T20 Challenge 2022 saw the Trailblazers take the field against Supernovas at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Supernovas won the toss and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to bat first. They started their innings in a blaze as Deandra Dottin was looking in a killer mood. He took on the bowlers while Priya Punia played a second fiddle to her. The dup put a partnership of 50 runs in 5 overs before Dottin (32 of 17) fell victim to an unfortunate runout. Priya Punia (22 of 20) soon followed and the team was 63 for 2 down in 7.1 overs. However, Harleen Deol kept the scoring at a healthy rate and thus kept the momentum of the match with her team. Harmanpreet Kaur was playing a steady knock at the other end. They put together a partnership of 37 runs before Deol (35 of 19) was dismissed by Salma Khatun. After this, the Supernovas lost a few quick wickets and the hopes of putting a 180+ total went out of the window. However, they managed to reach a total of 163 runs in their 20 overs. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was the highest scorer for the team with 37 off 29 balls. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers for Trailblazers with 3 wickets for 29 runs from her four overs. Notably, this was the highest total in the history of the tournament.

The Trailblazers made a solid start to their chase. Openers Smrithi Mandhana and Hayley Matthews put together 39 runs for the first wicket in 5 overs. It was Pooja Vastrakar who picked up Hayley Matthews (18 of 14) in the fifth over of the innings. After this the Trailblazers lost Smirthi Mandhana (32 of 23) and Sophia Dunkley (1 of 2) in the 8th over of the innings bowled by Vastrakar. After this the Trailblazers experienced a collapse where the lost 7 wickets for 23 runs. The chase was this over with such an awful batting display by the Trailblazers' middle-order. They finished with 114 runs from their 20 overs. Pooja Vastrakar ripped thorugh the Trailblazers' batting order with 4 wickets from her 4 overs conceding 12 runs.
