Former India batter Robin Uthappa became the first player in the ILT20 to receive the 'Green Belt' after a fantastic innings of 79 off 46 balls against Gulf Giants on Monday at the Dubai International Stadium (January 16). With 122 runs in the competition so far, Uthappa currently leads the top run-scorers chart.

The coveted Black Belt will be presented to the owner of the victorious team after the winning team has lifted the magnificent ILT20 tournament trophy as part of the final presentations. During the presentations, the league's most valuable player will be recognised and awarded the stunning Red Belt, recognising his crowd-pleasing, consistent efforts.

The ILT20 introduced five belt sets in its first season: the Green Belt, White Belt, Black Belt, Red Belt, and Blue Belt. At the end of the competition, the player with the most runs will receive the Green Belt, while the player with the most wickets will receive the White Belt.

In the meantime, the 24 UAE players who were hand-picked to compete in the league will compete for the Blue Belt, which will be awarded to the best UAE player at the end of the season.

However, fans on social media were perplexed, wondering if it was WWE cricket. The organisers have placed a strong emphasis on incorporating unique ideas and concepts throughout the International League T20 in order to make it one of the most innovative leagues in the world.

Mubashshir Usmani, General Secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board, said of the unique set of player awards, "We wanted to come up with something new with regard to the player awards and we are thrilled to introduce the various Belts, which will add another kind of flavour to the tournament. We anticipate the Belts will be a big hit among the players, something they will strive to receive, and the fans will come to recognise as a symbol of greatness around the globe."
