The Ashes is going kick off on 16 June 2023 as England and Australia will lock horns with each other in the first Test in Birmingham. But, before the series opener, Australia fans are worried about the recent form of their openers, especially David Warner. In the World Test Championship (WTC) final, he scored just 44 runs in two innings.
In the last 17 innings, he has one Test fifty only. During Ashes 2019, Warner had a terrible outing as Stuart Broad dismissed him seven times. In that series, he scored just 95 runs at an average of 9.5. So, this time around, the veteran batter will look to do well in the English condition. Now, ahead of the series opener, the Aussie skipper, Pat Cummins came up and claimed that a different Warner will be seen in this Ashes.
“I don’t think there’ll be any surprises.” - Pat Cummins about David Warner
While speaking to WA today, Cummins said that Warner would have been thinking about Broad over the last four years. He said: “I don’t think there’ll be any surprises. They’re guys we’ve played a lot and Davey’s I’m sure been thinking about Broad a lot over the last four years and if he got another chance, how he is going to play against him. It didn’t go Davey’s way last time, but I think we’ll see a different Davey this time.”
Meanwhile, Warner earlier confirmed that he has been hoping for an SCG farewell from Test cricket in January 2024. It will be the last of the three-match Test series between Australia and Pakistan at SCG from 3-7 January 2024. While talking to reporters in Beckenham, Warner said: "I've always said the <2024 T20> World Cup will be my final game, but I think I probably owe it to myself and my family. If I can score runs here, continue to play back in Australia, I can definitely say I won't be playing that West Indies
