“We got into a nice position on the first day” - Steve Smith

After the win at the Oval, Smith said: "It's a great achievement for this group, we played some good cricket in the last 2 years to get over here, so did India. We got into a nice position on the first day, Trav (Head) played really well, allowed me to anchor the innings, it helped us control the innings well."

He also took a great catch to dismiss Virat Kohli and about that, Smith said: "That catch was important for us. Virat was important and Jadeja as well. That got us going. We deserved the win and got the win in the end. Happy with the bowling effort that the guys threw in there."

Regarding his innings, the Player of the Match, Travis Head said: “I wanted to be proactive and score if the balls were there and then if they bowl in nice areas you try and be good enough to stay out there for long periods. I was tested through my innings. It was nice to be able to bat as well as we did with Smith. It was an amazing Test from him.”
