The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has picked a 20-member squad for the India tour of Sri Lanka comprising three One Day Internationals and as many T20 Internationals. The limited-overs team, led by Shikhar Dhawan, has as many as five debutants. Meanwhile, one of the notable excursions from the Indian team was of left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat.
The pacer’s last outing for India came in 2018 against Bangladesh. Unadkat has improved his game by leaps and bounds and is a prominent name in the Indian domestic circuit. The 29-year-old took a record-breaking 67 wickets in the 2020 Ranji Trophy season, leading Saurashtra to their maiden triumph.
Despite, good performances in the domestic circuit, Unadkat hasn’t been reconsidered for the national team. However, the seamer isn’t demotivated from the snubs and has decided to work harder for the national call-up. After not getting picked for the Sri Lanka tour, Jaydev posted a long note on his official Twitter handle where he spoke at lengths about his cricket career.
"I found my passion when I was a kid, inspired by watching all the greats of the game play with all their heart on the field. All these years later, I got to experience it myself. And above everything else, that never say die attitude that I saw in them and nurtured inside myself, stayed with me! When I was young, some labelled me as a raw, erratic bowler, an over-dreaming bloke coming from a small town," Unadkat said.
"At this point in my career, with all the useful experience that I've fortunately gathered, I'm only going to appreciate what comes my way and keep fighting till the very end. (and that's not gonna be soon, sure!). I am super grateful for your good wishes & support. Time to focus on my next game. and work even harder. Until then, social media detox mode on," Porbandar-born added.
