Pakistan and England are locking horns with each other in the final of the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. English skipper Jos Buttler has decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Both the teams are there in the middle with the same playing XI they played with, in the semi-finals of the tournament.
But apart from the action of the match, there is something else that has caught the attention of cricket fans. England cricket team’s players are wearing black armbands during this iconic clash against the men in green.
So, why English players are wearing these black armbands in this mega clash of the grandest tournament in the shortest format of the game?
In a shocking line of events, David English, who is known as the Godfather of cricket in England has recently passed away yesterday. To pay respect and tribute to the legendary figure of the game, Jos Buttler and his English team is wearing black armbands while they are in action in the final against Pakistan.
England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler also tweeted a photo with David English while remembering the latter after his sudden demise.
"So sad to hear the news of David English passing away. One of life’s great characters, so fun to spend time with, and a producer of some of the best English cricketers through his wonderful Bunbury Festivals. RIP" reads the tweet posted by Jos Buttler on his official Twitter while mourning David English’s death.
