The national selectors announced the squads for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, December 27. One of the notable omissions from the ODI squad for India's upcoming three-match home series against Sri Lanka was keeper-batter Sanju Samson. The star player was chosen for the T20Is but was not given a chance for the 50-over games.
Samson was a member of India's white-ball team in November in New Zealand. However, he was benched for each of the three T20Is. he finally had his chance, after being selected for the first ODI of the series, but despite a respectable 36-run innings, he was left out of the lineup for the next two games.
Samson was also not chosen for the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series that the Men in Blue played against Bangladesh in December. Given that Rishabh Pant is also not included in the ODI squad, his exclusion from the team for the Sri Lanka series was unexpected.
Ishan Kishan has been selected by the Indian Cricket Board as their wicketkeeper-batsman, with KL Rahul serving as his backup. Despite not being a regular keeper, Rahul has kept many games. His most recent appearance was in the ODI series against Bangladesh, where India was playing without Rishabh Pant and without Ishan Kishan for the first two games.
Several supporters criticised the team management for leaving Sanju Samson out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka on social media after the squad announcement. KL Rahul, who has recently struggled with form, was considered by many to have been replaced by Samson.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Sanju Samson
What was the reason for not selecting sanju? I am not such big fan of sanju but who deserves should get chance. The supporters of team india understand everything and know. That's why we always question the no-selection of sanju. @IamSanjuSamson #INDvSL #TeamIndia #SanjuSamson

The Guy Who has a very good record in ODIs this year does not have a place in the ODI squad . Great vision @BCCI #SanjuSamson #BCCISelectionCommittee

So, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are now ahead of Rishabh Pant in the T20 pecking order. It was on the cards. Ishan, Ruturaj, Samson and Sky is a fabulous top 4. Expect Rajat Patidar to compete with Hooda and Tripathi for the last batting spot

Why always with Sanju Samson 😢 @ICC @BCCI @IamSanjuSamson #Puchtahaiindia https://t.co/R7vWVsEAh5

Inform & most destructive Sanju Samson not as wicket keeper in T20 & not selected for ODI whereas formless Rahul still gets place. BCCI is on a mission to make Ishaan as next poster boy, poor Sanju talent & form is not all needed, needed some lobbying also #INDvSL #SanjuSamson pic.twitter.com/EhIHeEPyMO

When t20i world cup was on the line they picked sanju samson in odi squad and now when the Odi wc is on the line they dropped him from odi side despite having better stats and picked him in t20i side !

Not sure whether to be happy or not🙏#SanjuSamson @IamSanjuSamson @SanjuSamsonFP pic.twitter.com/60eSxGA9Px
Average of 66 and strike rate of 104 Sanju Samson hasn't done anything wrong. When it was T20 world cup it was told that we are looking him in ODIs but now in T20. #SanjuSamson ♥️ pic.twitter.com/t7Rjz5cLos
